As a member of The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta, I conduct myself and IMPACT INSPECTIONS in the following manner.

Code of Ethics

The purpose of The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta, ASET Code of Ethics is to give general statements of the principles of ethical conduct in order that the members of ASET may fulfill their duty to the public, the profession and other ASET members.

The following Code of Ethics shall be understood as a general guide, and the members are bound by its provision just as they are bound by the controls of Council and the bylaws of the Society.

Members of ASET shall:

  1. Hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public, the protection of the environment and the promotion of health and safety within the workplace;

  2. Undertake and accept responsibility for professional assignments only when qualified by training and experience;

  3. Provide an opinion on a professional subject only when it is founded upon adequate knowledge and honest conviction;

  4. Act with integrity towards clients or employers, maintain confidentiality and avoid a conflict of interest but, where such conflict arises, fully disclose the circumstances without delay to the employer or client;

  5. Keep informed to maintain proficiency and competence, to advance the knowledge within their discipline and further opportunities for the professional development of their associates;

  6. Conduct themselves with fairness, honesty, courtesy and good faith towards clients, colleagues and others;

  7. Present clearly to employers and clients the possible consequences if professional decisions or judgments are overruled or disregarded;

  8. Report to the appropriate agencies any hazardous, illegal or unethical professional decisions or practices by other members or others; and

  9. Promote public knowledge and appreciation of applied science, information and engineering technology and protect the Society from misrepresentation and misunderstanding.

The Inspector Certification Board promotes a high standard of professionalism, business ethics and inspection procedures. Master Professional Inspectors subscribe to the following Code of Ethics in the course of their business.

1. Duty to the Public

a. The Master Professional Inspector shall abide by this Code of Ethics and substantially follow a Board approved Standards of Practice.

b. The Master Professional Inspector shall have completed 500 fee-paid inspections or hours of inspection-related continuing education (combined) in his/her lifetime.

c. The Master Professional Inspector shall not engage in any practices that could be damaging to the public or bring discredit to the home inspection industry.

d. The Master Professional Inspector shall be fair, honest, impartial, and act in good faith in dealing with the public.

e. The Master Professional Inspector will not discriminate in any business activities on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, sexual orientation, or handicap and shall comply with all federal, provincial and local laws concerning discrimination.

f. The Master Professional Inspector shall be truthful regarding his/her services & qualifications.

g. The Master Professional Inspector will have no conflict of interest with the client, nor will they accept or offer any commissions, rebates, profits or other benefit.

h. The Master Professional Inspector shall always act in the interest of the client, unless doing so violates a law, statute or this Code of Ethics.

j. The Master Professional Inspector shall use a written contract that specifies the services to be performed, limitations of services and fees.

k. The Master Professional Inspector shall comply with all government rules and licensing requirements of the jurisdiction where he/she conducts business.
